Manchmal stimmt alles; das sanfte Rauschen der Wellen am Morgen, der erste Schluck Kaffee, das Wetter, das Licht, die Begegnungen mit den Menschen, bis hin zum tollen Sonnenuntergang. Doch nach Durchsicht der Fotos am Abend ist die Ausbeute nur mager. Wenn überhaupt ein Foto auch nur eines weiteren Blickes würdig ist. Am Ende des Tages bleibt ein wunderschöner Urlaubstag, was ja nicht unbedingt so schlecht ist, wäre da nicht der Anspruch die Authentizität des Alltags: Märkte, Momentaufnahmen, das geschäftige Treiben und vielleicht mit den Menschen in Kontakt zu kommen. Die Kunst mit der Fotografie Geschichten zu erzählen lässt sich nun mal nicht erzwingen. Um der Wahrheit die Ehre zu geben, gerade in äquatorial gelegenen Ländern wie Zanzibar, oder Samoa ist das Reisen mit unter beschwerlich. Oft sind es aber gerade diese Grenzgänge, die zu unerwarteten Begebenheiten, besonderen Erlebnissen und zu Kontakten führen. Dann passiert es schon mal, dass ich am Ende des Tages, total zerstochen, pudelnass und todmüde ins Bett falle. Doch siehe da, die gemachten Fotos sind oft mehr als eine Belohnung für die Strapazen des Tages.

Sometimes everything is just right: the gentle sound of the waves in the morning, the first sip of coffee, the weather, the light, the encounters with people, right up to the magnificent sunset. But after looking through the photos in the evening, the yield is meager. If any photo is even worth a second look. At the end of the day, all that remains is a wonderful vacation, which isn't necessarily so bad, were it not for the desire for the authenticity of everyday life: markets, snapshots, the hustle and bustle, and perhaps the opportunity to come into contact with the people. The art of telling stories with photography simply cannot be forced. To be honest, traveling can be difficult at times, especially in equatorial countries like Zanzibar or Samoa. But often it is precisely these border crossings that lead to unexpected occurrences, special experiences, and contacts. Then it sometimes happens that I fall into bed at the end of the day, completely covered in bites, soaking wet, and dead tired. But lo and behold, the photos taken are often more than a reward for the day's exertions.
